Yanchang Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical Desulfurization Booster Fan High-Voltage VFD Project
Petrochemicals | Refinery Boiler Desulfurization System / Booster Induced Draft Fan | High-Voltage VFD Speed Control + One VFD per Motor with Manual Bypass
Project Background
Yanchang Petroleum Refining and Chemicals Company added a boiler desulfurization and dust removal system. The booster induced draft fan conveys and discharges flue gas from the desulfurization process. Relying on dampers to regulate airflow can cause throttling losses and operational control issues.
Project Challenges
- The booster induced draft fan is a key component of the desulfurization system and must support both continuous operation and airflow regulation.
- Conventional damper control causes energy losses and increases fan wear and noise.
- A line-frequency operating path must remain available during VFD maintenance or faults to support production continuity.
Dayu Solution
A GBT series high-voltage variable frequency drive (VFD) controls the speed of the booster induced draft fan, with one VFD per motor and a manual bypass. During VFD maintenance or faults, disconnect switches isolate the VFD so that the motor can be switched to the line-frequency supply. The VFD room uses air conditioning and recirculating air cooling to reduce the effects of heat and dust on equipment operation.
Key Configuration
- Equipment: Boiler desulfurization booster induced draft fan.
- Configuration: GBT-MVG series high-voltage VFD.
- System: One VFD per motor with manual bypass, allowing switching between VFD and line-frequency operation.
- Environment: Air conditioning and recirculating air cooling in the VFD room.
Application Value
The equipment operates stably and meets on-site process requirements. Compared with line-frequency operation using damper control, VFD operation reduces regulation losses, starting impact, maintenance workload and fan operating noise.
